Coalition of the...puerile?

So, after building a nice, diverse, thought-provoking blog coalition...a reasoned alternative to the so-called "Collective"...a failure...we are now going to see "improvement" thanks to the likes of Rich Reynolds and Chirstopher "Robin"...uhh I mean JAY...?? Yeah, yeah...so what's the punch line?? ;)

Coalition...yeah, like as in the famous "Coalition of the Willing"...all 2 of them and whomever they can coerce into a photo-op.

When "Dick" writes, I typically wince because he has stated in public forums that his goal is not solving, illuminating, expanding awareness of, or in any way enhancing the debate over UFOs. Nope, his goal is to raise hackles, to stir the pot, and generally bare his fatuous arguments for all 3 of his adherents to see. And his writing reflects the vacuous goal he has set forth. Never a cogent argument, only dissonant prose dressed as compelling, but at the end of the day garment-less.

Christopher "Robin"...uhh I mean JAY...ok, I'm just gonna call him Pooh from now on...is another beast entirely. Endowed with an ego that far outstrips his testicles or it's own justification, Pooh waxes on and on about how everyone else does nothing, is worth nothing, has nothing to say...all while contributing nothing. Pooh gives his all...NOTHING. Pooh is what he writes...nothing.

The UFO Bog Coalition took a step down when it involved the RRR Group in the first place, and this new episode simply illustrates this in a most salient fashion, indeed.

And just to be accurate, a group which breaks away from another group to form a new group is not a "coalition" anyway. Look it up. What you have created is just another failed "collective" of inanity and zero interest.

Congratulations Dick and Pooh...you are the winners. And it only cost whatever credibility you imagined for yourself before, and any relevancy you might imagine for yourself going forward. Well done. Anyone who had any reasons left to read your garbage now has none. Perhaps the silver lining after all...

Ufology is better off with you guys over in the corner polishing something anyway.

It's what you do best, or at least better than anything you've written..."collective"-ly. :)

Terry, it is a shame, but no matter how nice the neighborhood, there's always a couple of parasites who feel the need to urinate in the pool. I don't blame you for giving up "drinking the water". And Dick and Pooh will simply find another pool in which to relieve themselves. Spoilers, not builders. Some coalition...

I tried, and then tried again, to give the RRR guys the benefit of the doubt, but they are simply incapable of understanding, or unwilling to do so, that they're not always right.

All the while labeling others as "pirates," "backstabbers," "fascists" etc.

I think Rich knows better, but he just lets the inmates run the asylum. It's the same attitude as Rense - say anything, do anything, without being responsible, all under the guise of freedom of speech.

I blame the education system. Obviously, somewhere along the line, in an American history class, someone forgot to tell Pooh and his pals that freedom can't truly exist without responsibility.

The word in that situation is not "freedom," but "anarchy."

Kyle:

Just let me add that there's nothing wrong with being a wise-ass. I do it on occassion myself - humour, as Stan Friedman is always saying, is a powerful tool. Jim Moseley exemplifies that, in a ufological context.

There's also nothing wrong with constructive criticism - even pointed criticism, that sometimes goes to a person's credibility (as I have done with Paul Hellyer, or Stan with Bob Lazar, for e.g.).

But there's no sense of ha-ha in Pooh's (now THAT is funny) writings, or those of his mates in the sandbox. It's mean-spirited. There's also no greater purpose, other than to inflame passions, and stir up trouble.

The very definition of an Internet Troll.

Paul

I was already pissed off when I went over to check out their site, then I saw the word "critiques" and I was really pissed off. Who are they to critique anyones blog post? Needless to say I won't be joining.

"Ahmm a u-nitr... not a dee-vider... ...heh.. heh.. heh..."

For some persons, suffocation and elitism is "freedom" and "anarchy" where they lack the courage and compassion and conviction to go. Too rigid ideologies largely provoke their own anarchies, I suspect. R - Cubed is just another entity created in the information void otherwise tolerated and even welcomed by the aforementioned...

"...there was something said once about protesting too much..."

Yeah, but I don't think we're anywhere near the cutoff of "too much" with regard to RRRGroup. They proclaim on their site that their goal was/is to be:

"... accessible to media and the general public, in a format that is easily accessed, read, and understood by visitors."

despite the fact that they instantly censor the comments as soon as said comments don't conform to their idea of the "new Ufological movement's" ideology. And they seem to spell logic as "MY-IDEA-NEEDS-NO-PROOF"

I agree with Lesley, I don't want to be "evaluated" or "critiqued," I'm not in grad school anymore. Just let me post away in my own little blog corner of the UFO realm. I won't be joining.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to defer to you and agree. Enough _is_ too much.

Paul -

Obviously, any education system which produced Pooh, Aaron Sakulich, etc., is the best evidence extant to show that many a child has apparently been "left behind". :)

And I too can be a smart-ass at times. I admire it when there is a clear and constructive goal at work...think Daily Show...but when it devolves into character assassination, and when the accusations of incompetence come from someone who isn't themself competent, the hypocrisy trumps any comedic or probative "smart-ass" value, IMO.

"...protest too much..."

There is a grand hypocrisy here, in that the actions of and commentary by RRR Group certainly constitute "protesting too much", while their goals are anything but constructive to the field of Ufology. They seek to deconstruct.

Now, this is a lofty goal, as Ufology is as ripe for deconstruction as any field. But when the deconstruction is designed only to deconstruct, and has no agenda of "creating" something new in its place, the deconstruction becomes anarchy.

They offer nothing to replace what they seek to destroy. THAT is anarchy.

Ideology has little to do with this, as they are not ideologues, since being an ideologue requires an ideology. RRR Group has nothing that represents an ideology except the destruction of the foundation of Ufology. This is a stated goal, not my opinion.

If you want to call that an ideology, you may. But to defend it is a fool's game. Unfortunately, this world has no shortage of fools.

I'm as much against "reigning paradigms" as anyone out there, but to tear down a paradigm solely because it doesn't satisfy, to cast apersions when they are inane, and to pronounce "no way" as a "better way", we've long since "jumped the shark" on any semblance of ideology, and have moved into the suppression of "freedom" epitomized by anarchy.

To say that anarchy is the epitome of freedom is simply foolish...unless you're big and bad enough to kick every other ass out there. RRR Group does not apply.

At least when they attempt to assemble their grand "coalition", they'll find the room decidedly "uncramped".

Of that I am confident...honor amongst thieves is an oxymoron.

Kyle:

Just remember that Pooh and AS were "produced" in the Clinton era!! :-)

As for your statement "to say that anarchy is the epitome fo freedom is simply freedom," I couldn't agree more, obviously.

As Bruce Springsteen said, "67 channels and nothing on." What applies for the mainstream media (those oh-so-easy targets of the looney far left and the wacko far right) applies even more so for the Internet.

So much chaff, so little wheat; so many bones, but so little meat.

Paul -

Unfortunately, ignorance knows no "era". Children have been being "left behind" since long before Clinton...or Bush.

The reference to "left behind" was just timely and convenient.

The comment still appears to be accurate in my view...Bush or not.

But the stubborn adherence to what common sense dictates is nonsense, coupled with outright indifference if not hostility to any counter-argument reeks of this administration's "ideology".

But this isn't about presidents... :)

Kyle:

Of course it isn't about presidents, as education, by and large, is not a federal matter (it isn't in Canada, either).

But just as you couldn't resist, neither could I. :-)

The thing is, "no child left behind" IS a great soundbite (right up there with "I feel your pain," "thousand points of light," etc etc).

The problem is that it's nothing more than that.

Hey Kyle! Just wanted to alert you in case you missed it that Rich Reynolds is saying some sh*t about you on the rrr blog.

Lesley -

Dick can say whatever he wants. It's HIS blog after all, and as he has stated, blogs aren't about truth, but about "raising hackles".

Unfortunately, and as usual, Dick's attempts to create an issue will fail miserably.

It's what he and his brand of netizens do with great aplomb...fail miserably.

A trend which is no doub going to continue.

For more fun with Dick, you should read the UFO Updates current threads. Dick is on full display, and getting his full ration of rabid indifference from the scholars therein...no less than his anti-intellectual posturing deserves.

Thanks for writing.
